Unfortunately, Julie Padilla - an executive from the mining company, Twin Metals, will be testifying in favor of mining directly adjacent to the Boundary Waters. In March earlier this year in front of the U.S. Senate, she was asked point blank if Twin Metals can guarantee no risk to the Wilderness. She callously compared mining to driving without a seatbelt and said “…certainly we have that risk…” directly referencing that Twin Metals knows their proposed mine is by no means “safe.”
Twin Metals has the money, backed by their owner - Chilean mining giant Antofagasta, to pour millions of dollars into convincing Congress it’s ok to sacrifice the Boundary Waters for their sole profit. Thankfully we have the majority of Minnesotans and people across this country who are not willing to sell out the Boundary Waters to the mining industry.
