John — this is not a drill.

A recent study published in Science found that one-third of all marine animals would go extinct in the next 300 years if we do not act swiftly on climate change. This is because warmer waters and deoxygenation in our oceans are creating inhospitable environments for some of our most important species.

Already we are seeing an accelerated trend of extinctions due to climate change: The IPCC found that at least 400 species have already disappeared because of climate-related causes.

Sea turtles and coral-dwelling fish are at high risk for climate-related extinction.

Stopping climate change now to preserve our oceans — essential not only for biodiversity but also for our fishing supply chains — is extremely important . Especially since climate researchers say we have a good chance to stop 70% of extinctions if we act on limiting fossil fuel usage and protect wildlife now . Simply, things might look dire for our sea friends, but we can change that!

SEEC members are on the frontlines of this fight to stop climate change and restore our oceans, so every underwater creature has an opportunity to thrive. Our oceans are ecologically and economically important, so of course, SEEC members are putting in the time to protect them.

SEEC members have already succeeded in bringing substantive action on climate change. These new reports on our marine life just underscore how important it is they continue their essential work. Again, with consistent effort, we can stop 70% of extinctions. So will you come on board as a supporter of their cause, John, and give to SEEC members who see the bigger picture and are acting today on climate change? [[link removed]]

Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
