Frivolous lawsuits are one of the biggest threats facing investigative journalists today, including those in the OCCRP network.
The issue is so critical that we decided to host a discussion tomorrow about how these cases, which are known as “strategic lawsuits against public participation" (SLAPPs), hurt journalism around the world.

The Panelists
Paul Radu, OCCRP: Our co-founder was the target of a years-long lawsuit related to our Azerbaijani Laundromat investigation that was ultimately settled in January 2020 ([link removed]) .
Stevan Dojčinović, KRIK: Our Serbian member center KRIK, which was founded by Dojčinović, is facing multiple SLAPPs ([link removed]) that seek almost $1 million in damages — three times more than KRIK’s annual budget.
Flutura Kusari, European Centre for Media and Press Freedom: Kusari ([link removed]) advises journalists on pre- and post- publication legal matters such as defamation, access to information, contempt of court, and privacy.
Charlie Holt, CASE: An attorney ([link removed]) who helps lead the Coalition Against SLAPPs in Europe. Holt will moderate the discussion.
