Hello,

Frivolous lawsuits are one of the biggest threats facing investigative journalists today, including those in the OCCRP network.

The issue is so critical that we decided to host a discussion tomorrow about how these cases, which are known as “strategic lawsuits against public participation" (SLAPPs), hurt journalism around the world.

To join this webinar, please donate any amount to OCCRP. Your contribution will go directly towards funding our network of journalists.

The one-hour virtual event, which will include time for the audience to ask questions, will be held on:

Tuesday, May 10, 2022
11:00 EDT / 16:00 CEST

This webinar is one of the many benefits available to members of OCCRP’s Accomplice program. You will receive a registration link to the event once you donate.

The Panelists

Paul Radu, OCCRP: Our co-founder was the target of a years-long lawsuit related to our Azerbaijani Laundromat investigation that was ultimately settled in January 2020

Stevan Dojčinović, KRIK: Our Serbian member center KRIK, which was founded by Dojčinović, is facing multiple SLAPPs that seek almost $1 million in damages — three times more than KRIK’s annual budget.

Flutura Kusari, European Centre for Media and Press Freedom: Kusari advises journalists on pre- and post- publication legal matters such as defamation, access to information, contempt of court, and privacy.

Charlie Holt, CASE: An attorney who helps lead the Coalition Against SLAPPs in Europe. Holt will moderate the discussion.
