The Senate will vote within days to enshrine Roe into federal law, but
will likely face a filibuster. That means the next Congress will be
critical. We need to keep the majority and elect real fighters.

This week, we were proud to endorse 4 bold progressive champions running
for Congress in open-seat districts where the incumbent Dems are retiring.

They aren’t just pro-choice, pro-worker, pro-justice. They are proven
leaders -- proven fighters -- with a track record of changing the
political terrain with their advocacy. We need that now more than ever. No
weakness. Strength.

This year, the giant Democratic economic agenda was slated to glide
through Congress -- until corporate Dems in the House (from safe blue
seats, no less) blocked the whole thing and gave Joe Manchin an opening to
pounce in the Senate.

As a result, millions of children were thrown back into poverty. Parents
in need of child care didn’t get it. Prescription prices remained high.
Billionaires continue to avoid taxation.

Democratic congressional seats rarely open up. With so many retirements
this year, it’s important for Democrats to seize that opportunity and
elect the best possible progressives we can -- because we might not have
another chance for decades.

* Donna Edwards was the first progressive in the modern era to defeat a
corporate Democratic incumbent for Congress during the Iraq war era in
2008. She left her seat in 2017, but is running to serve once again in
MD-04. A staunch progressive, she would regain all of her House
seniority and be a top leader in the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
* David Segal (RI-02) is a nationally recognized progressive who
co-founded Demand Progress. He has a history of building broad
coalitions by forging agreement on bold populist anti-corruption and
anti-monopoly policies, including holding Big Tech accountable. He is
running to replace retiring Rep. James Langevin, who has been in
office for 21 years.
* Nida Allam, 28 (NC-04) would be the youngest woman ever elected to
Congress -- and the first Pakistani-American member. Her election is
in less than two weeks on May 17. Nida is a champion for the Green New
Deal and Medicare for All and has fought to raise the minimum wage --
which is why corporate Super PACs are targeting her. She is running to
replace retiring Rep. David Price, who has held the seat for over 30
years.
* Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) is a civil rights attorney and current member
of the Texas legislature. She came in first in the primary and has
advanced to a run-off on May 24. When Texas Republicans tried to strip
away voting rights, Jasmine was one of the lead architects of the
Texas Democrats’ move to block the legislature from acting while the
Dems went to D.C. to push for federal voting rights legislation. She
is running to replace retiring Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, who has
been in office for 29 years and has endorsed Crockett.
