🍎 📏 Teachers’ job satisfaction levels appear to have hit an all-time low, and it's not surprising why. The COVID-19 pandemic was difficult for teachers and students alike as classes were forced online. And when the school doors finally opened again, teachers were made to create and enforce socially-distanced classrooms. It remains to be seen if the public school system leaders can fix the problems that their policy decisions created for public school teachers. Read more. ([link removed])

** FDA Needs To Promote Tobacco Harm Reduction, Not Bans ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced new “proposed product standards” ([link removed]) that would eliminate menthol cigarettes and ban characterizing flavors (other than tobacco) in cigars. The FDA claims that such a move would “prevent children from becoming the next generation of smokers and help adult smokers quit.” While addressing youth use of combustible cigarettes and helping people who smoke quit is laudable, the agency ought to focus its priority on products that have both helped adults quit smoking and essentially eliminated youth cigarette use: electronic cigarettes, also known as e-cigarettes and/or vapor products. ------------------------------------------------------------
On Earth Day, the White House announced executive action to “strengthen America’s forests." A corresponding White House Fact Sheet ([link removed]) lists their priorities as follows: reducing wildlife risk, strengthening forests for local economics, combating global deforestation, and employing nature to combat climate change. But it’s reasonable to lack some confidence in the plans as currently, USFS reports a backlog of 80 million acres needing restoration. Read more. ([link removed])

** Student Loan Debt and Forgiveness ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
President Biden recently made public comments about considering a plan to cancel student debt. While this move is popular with many in the credentialed class, it transfers the burden to taxpayers, including those that saved to pay back any debt they incurred.

Can you identify which of the following statements about loan forgiveness is not true?

A. Student loan debt is becoming a large crisis for millions of younger Americans.
B. The taxpayer is already on the hook for unpaid student loans.
C. Student loan forgiveness is a way to help out working class Americans.

A popular political Tweet about Mother’s Day is floating around. It says, "Things I want for Mother’s Day: federally paid maternity leave, pelvic floor therapy covered by insurance, lactation consultants for all, changing tables in all gender bathrooms, to not set our careers back when we have a baby, and affordable child care." It’s a nice list, but as with everything, the devil is in the details.

** Don’t Bring Disorder in Law Schools To the Court ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Recently at Yale Law School, over 100 students disrupted a debate, ironically, about a recent First Amendment case. But the protestors attempted to drown out the event before it even began, even though the organizers had planned a time for questions and answers at the end. Such disorder at law schools has dire consequences for the quality of legal education.
