We planned an event to talk about the 2022 midterm map. But then… [things changed.]([link removed]) 

First, we want to acknowledge what a grave and scary moment this is. On Monday, a Supreme Court draft opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito, was leaked to the press, suggesting that a majority of justices are prepared to overrule Roe vs Wade. If (and when) Roe vs Wade is overturned, at least 23 states will immediately or shortly thereafter have bans or extremely severe restrictions on abortion. That won’t end abortion in those states, but it will end safe abortions, causing needless deaths, disproportionately among low-income and minority women. If you’re reading this and feeling overwhelmed, scared, or sad, we’re right there with you, and are sending you our love and solidarity. 

In light of this news, we’re switching things up for our event this evening at 7:30 ET/4:30 PT. Law professor, Strict Scrutiny co-host, and Supreme Court expert Leah Litman is joining us to talk through the draft decision and what comes next in the fight to secure reproductive justice.

It’s a weird year. (Ok, it’s a weird decade.) We’ve all got a lot going on, and a lot of emotions, not least about the midterms. 

We’ve heard a lot of anxiety, despair, and fear surrounding the midterms. We get it. There’s a lot at stake. But it’s time to dispel those myths offered by pundits and random people on Twitter, and actually talk through the good, the bad, and the inspiring of the 2022 map. 

That’s why we’re excited to be kicking off our community events series, The Game Plan, on Tuesday, May 3rd at 4:30 PM.  If you’re feeling anxious about what this year holds or wondering whether it’s worth getting involved, this event is for you.  (If you are already persuaded that it’s worth getting involved, what are you doing? Our first guest is Michael Podhorzer, the Assistant to the President for Strategic Research for the AFL-CIO. Mike has long been a leader in the progressive space, particularly when it comes to all things voting rights, election subversion, and combating the MAGA faction. You may have read about the tremendous effort he helped lead to protect the 2020 election results in [Time]([link removed]) and the [New York Times]([link removed]). Mike will be joining Crooked Media Senior Political Director, Shaniqua McClendon to talk about the 2022 map and his data-driven case for optimism.
