Monday Nature Mystery

We are pleased to announce the winner of our last Monday Nature Mystery, Diane Ames! Please email us your snail mail address and preference for a hat or tote bag to: [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]?subject=Monday%20Nature%20Mystery%20Winner!)

Congratulations to Diane for correctly identifying the Common Baskettail dragonfly (Epitheca cynosura). According to Dragonflies of Northern Virginia ([link removed]) , this species can be found in the Spring near sunny streams or high above clearings. This is a small dragonfly, about 1.6” or 38-43mm. Both male and female have the tan markings on their thorax and abdomen.
