Today is Earth Day, which means your inboxes and news feeds are probably inundated with bad news about our warming planet. But how is climate change impacting us, right here in PA? Here’s a quick rundown:
How the Climate Crisis Hits PA
*
More
flooding
*
Increased
heat
and
respiratory
deaths
*
Disease
and
pests
increase
*
Disrupted
agricultural
systems
When I learn about disaster or suffering, I want to roll up my sleeves and get right to work helping folks who’ve been impacted and ensuring others aren’t hurt in the same way.
This is why I was proud to secure $1 million in federal funding to create a program that will help clean the Schuylkill River. I am also working hard to identify areas of federal funding to help Eastwick, a neighborhood in Philadelphia [[link removed]] that has experienced decades of mismanagement, industrial misuse, and environmental racism that has perpetuated generations of environmental and health inequities.
I am also ready to build on the work done by my colleague, Rep. Madeleine Dean, when I start representing Norristown after redistricting. Norristown faces significant flooding concerns, greatly exacerbated by the global climate crisis.
I know there is more to be done and I promise to do what I can in Congress to push for real, tangible action on our climate crisis nationwide and here at home.
