This year, California’s huge budget surplus may end up over $50 BILLION!

We CAN afford to ensure everyone has a secure home. And yet, more families are at risk of losing their homes today than they were at the beginning of this pandemic.

We have solutions. The State is deciding its budget for the coming year, and the Governor and legislature have the opportunity to fund programs to help keep families in their homes - both renters and homeowners - and create more housing affordable to low income and working families. Click here to urge your legislators to fund a Right to Counsel, a Community Anti-Displacement and Preservation Program, and a PACE Restitution Fund! <[link removed]>

Another world is possible. Right now three key proposals are moving through the legislature that could help families at risk of losing their housing:

- Right to Counsel, will fund outreach and education so renters know their rights, and provide free legal services for tenants going through eviction proceedings. After California prematurely ended the state’s rent relief program and removed local eviction protections for 4 million renters, funding a Right to Counsel is the least they can do.

- Community Anti-Displacement & Preservation Program (CAPP) allocates funds so that local Community Land Trusts, other non-profits and local government can buy homes away from speculators and keep them affordable and locally-owned, further slowing displacement and price-gouging!

- PACE Restitution Fund - PACE is a government-sponsored energy efficiency home improvement lending program that has been abused by corporate interests and used to defraud working-class homeowners. Their predatory lending has left thousands with huge debt they cannot pay putting many at risk of foreclosure - often without the work even being done on their homes! These victims need and deserve restitution!

The burden of the COVID pandemic and the success of California’s huge budget surplus was on our backs, those of us who had to  work throughout the COVID pandemic.iI’s time we benefit from the economy we keep running!. Click here to demand the CA Budget Subcommittees vote in favor of funding a Right to Counsel, CAPP, and the restitution fund for PACE victims to support the families who kept the CA economy afloat! <[link removed]>
