A few days ago, Iowa’s incumbent Senator, Joni Ernst, blocked a vote to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

Now, she’s trying to deflect responsibility for her actions by introducing her own watered-down version of VAWA, which:
* Fails to protect victims of domestic abuse unless they are married to their abuser (“boyfriend loophole”), to which the NRA objected;

* Fails to stop discrimination against LGBTQ victims of abuse; AND,

* Restricts Native American tribal courts’ ability to hear and rule on violent crimes against women in their communities.

Send the message that Ernst has no business representing us in the Senate. ([link removed])

Ernst was entrusted with reauthorizing VAWA, which she promised to do without letting the bill fall prey to partisan politics. Instead, she stalled the already overdue vote and introduced a weak version of VAWA in a blatant attempt to appease her NRA supporters and place the GOP over people.

Joni Ernst is failing to protect women, victims of abuse, and voters.

Senators who sacrifice the good of the people in favor of their donors (in this case, the NRA) don’t belong in the Senate. It’s time for fearless, progressive fighters who will stand up for everyone. That’s why I’m running to be the best Senator money can’t buy, and why I’ll never buckle under pressure from corporate PACs and corporate lobbyists the way our current Senator does.
