A glass-breaking moment in our country’s journey toward racial justice

Dear John,
Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed, 53-47, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as Associate Justice to the U.S. Supreme Court. This is an important, glass-breaking moment in our country’s centuries-long journey toward racial justice. It is, indeed, a momentous and historic occasion, one that could not have occurred without the vision, resolve, and sacrifice of those who never gave up hope, and whose commitment to justice has stood the test of time.

Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson stands at a podium during a speaking event. Her quote is written beside her, "I am here, standing on the shoulders of generations of Americans who never had anything close to this opportunity."<[link removed]>
Sixty-eight years after Rosa Parks took a stand by holding her seat, and with the unyielding leadership and resolve of countless other unsung Black women leaders, a Black woman is finally taking her seat on the bench of our country’s highest court. The ascension of Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson affirms what can be accomplished with strength and unity of purpose, and will inspire generations. Finally, Black girls who are watching and experiencing this moment can now see a woman who looks like them at this pinnacle of achievement.
Today we celebrate and use this moment to remind ourselves that we must continue the hard work to upend white supremacy and patriarchy once and for all, in order to make the vision of equity and justice a reality for everyone – on the high court, and across our country.
In solidarity,
