Fellow Conservative,
Before we dive in, check out Fox's coverage <[link removed]> of Heritage Action's work to call out Disney. From the article:
------
"It really is a woke world after all," Anderson said, in a play off Disney's "It's a Small World."
Anderson continued: "While the left and woke companies like Disney continue to lie about the Florida Parental Rights in Education bill, Florida has remained committed to protecting children in grades K-3 from being exposed by unnecessary sexualized classroom instructions along with strengthening parents’ rights."
------
Back in DC, the Senate and House were in session, and so that’s a great place to start our weekly wrap-up:
Updates on the Hill
Supreme Court: Biden’s radical pick for the Supreme Court –– Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson –– overcame the most difficult part of the nomination process last week when testifying in front the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Senate Majority Leader Schumer is striving to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson before the Senate goes into the Easter recess, as with each passing day <[link removed]>, Jackson’s soft-on-crime record becomes more and more of a liability.
This week, Republicans in the Judiciary Committee used a procedural tactic to delay a vote to pass her name out of committee by a week. However, it is expected her confirmation will receive a vote on the Senate floor this upcoming week. For a quick breakdown on the process and procedure, check out Episode 32 of On Air With Heritage Action. <[link removed]>

This week, Heritage Action also launched a digital ad campaign targeting five Senate Democrats and urging them to stand up to Biden and oppose Jackson’s nomination

A tale of two “China bills”: Back in February, House Democrats passed the COMPETES Act <[link removed]>, but it’s so weak, we call it the “CONCEDES” Act. It’s an exorbitantly priced proposal that does very little <[link removed]> to counter China and includes billions for far-Left “climate” groups and Democrat-aligned corporations.
This week, the Senate took up the House’s bill, but swapped in text that matched a bill previously passed by the Senate, the “U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (USICA).”
So now the House and Senate will try to work out a compromise via a conference committee.
Heritage Action is working to ensure provisions from the House bill don’t get added back into the Senate bill—as you can see from the graphic below, that would be making a bad bill worse.

Government price controls: The House passed a bill that would enact government price controls for insulin. Here’s what Leftists don’t understand –– the answer to high drug prices is less government overreach, not more. In a competitive free market unburdened by unnecessary FDA regulations, insulin prices could be a fraction of their current cost. It’s up to Congress to get out of the way. The bill now heads to the Senate, but certain Senators are working on competing proposals.

A radical nominee rejected: Biden nominated David Weil, a radical Obama alum, to lead the Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division. While an obscure position, don’t underestimate its importance in shaping our economy through its regulatory powers. Weil is so radical that even three Democrat Senators joined all Republicans in rejecting his nomination. Sadly, too many of Biden’s other radical picks have gotten through—it’s why there is a crisis at the border that is getting worse <[link removed]> under Biden’s new policies.
House Votes to Legalize Pot: Kids are behind in school, inflation is at a 40-year high, and crime is way up. But rather than confront the serious issues, House Democrats passed the MORE Act to deschedule marijuana use…and more.
The bill would also expunge convictions for numerous federal marijuana-related offenses and release convicts from jail, use your taxpayer dollars to give loans to marijuana companies, and grow the federal bureaucracy with the creation of a Cannabis Justice Office.
Fight for America
This week, The Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action announced a set of seven issues <[link removed]> to guide our efforts in the fight for America’s future.
Conservatives must set the agenda, earn a mandate for that agenda, and govern accordingly. Over the next three years, we will engage, along with our allies, in Washington and in the states.
>>> Don’t miss: Director of Grassroots Janae Stracke explains the power of setting an agenda. <[link removed]>
Heritage President Dr. Kevin Roberts and Executive Director Jessica Anderson onstage in Washington to unveil the plan.
Here are the seven policy priorities:
- Empower Parents to Make Education Choices
- Secure America’s Borders and Reduce Crime
- Ensure Free and Fair Elections
- Reverse the Growth of Spending and Inflation
- Counter the Threat of Communist China
- Hold Big Tech Accountable
- Protect the Unborn
With radical Leftists in control of Congress and the White House, conservatives have A LOT to complain about when it comes to the direction of America.
Still, Americans need a real plan to get us back on track. It’s not enough to complain –– conservatives must be proactive and communicate a positive vision for our country’s future.
Arizona and Florida Lead the Way
It’s been a great week for the people of Arizona and Florida! Their Governors signed strong and conservative legislation to address key concerns.
Let’s get to it.
Arizona: Governor Ducey signed three different bills into law this week.
- HB2492: <[link removed]> Ensures that only citizens are able to vote in Arizona’s elections and strengthens proof of citizenship requirements for voter registration applications.
- SB1164: Protects the unborn at 15 weeks of gestation. This pro-life bill is a step in the right direction in our fight to protect the most vulnerable among us –– babies still in the womb.
- SB1165: Ensures only biological women are allowed to compete in women’s athletics. The Left’s radical gender ideology is harming women, and this bill will prevent some of the more obvious consequences of radical gender theory.
Florida:
- HB1557: Thanks to Governor DeSantis’ signature, this new law will protect children from sexualized instruction and bolster parents' rights to know what's going on in their children's lives at school. As you may have seen, the media, woke corporations, and radical Democrats are lying relentlessly about the content of the law. Check out our Myth vs. Fact <[link removed]> here to learn the truth.
This list is not conclusive—there really is so much happening at the state level. We’ll continue to keep you updated as bills move through legislatures and help you take action in support of good policy.
Thank you all for what you do. It’s a privilege to work alongside you every day.
