“We have a republic,” Ben Franklin famously quipped, “as long as we can keep it.”

Having a republic means “a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.” As the People’s Lawyer, I am committed to fighting for our republic and our democratic institutions.
To preserve our democratic republic, we must listen to and hear each other. Unfortunately, we have too much demonization today and too little listening and collaborative problem solving. To do something about this, I am partnering with former Republican Secretary of State and current Colorado Springs City Councilman Wayne Williams, as well as Unify America and America Talks, to sponsor the Unify Colorado Challenge [[link removed]] .

Here’s how it works. We give you an opportunity to have a respectful online one-on-one conversation with a fellow Coloradan who may live in a different place, have perspectives different than yours, and vote differently than you. The challenge is to embrace the dialogue and bring a learning mindset to the conversation; the opportunity is for each of us to come away from the experience with a richer understanding of issues and how others see them.

JOIN THE UNIFY COLORADO CHALLENGE [[link removed]]

The Unify Colorado Challenge is an offshoot of my leadership of the Attorney General Alliance, which is spearheading the Ginsburg-Scalia Initiative. This important initiative [[link removed]] focuses on how we foster more respectful dialogue and less demonization. This work, along with the Unify Colorado Challenge, will help us develop civic education material to teach young people that democratic participation is engaged conversation, not insults on social media.

As I often celebrate, our democracy is a team sport. And we are all on Team Colorado and Team USA. Thanks for joining me in the ongoing hard work of preserving our republic.
