“We have a republic,” Ben Franklin famously quipped, “as long as we can keep it.”
Having a republic means “a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.” As the People’s Lawyer, I am committed to fighting for our republic and our democratic institutions.
To preserve our democratic republic, we must listen to and hear each other. Unfortunately, we have too much demonization today and too little listening and collaborative problem solving. To do something about this, I am partnering with former Republican Secretary of State and current Colorado Springs City Councilman Wayne Williams, as well as Unify America and America Talks, to sponsor the Unify Colorado Challenge.
Here’s how it works. We give you an opportunity to have a respectful online one-on-one conversation with a fellow Coloradan who may live in a different place, have perspectives different than yours, and vote differently than you. The challenge is to embrace the dialogue and bring a learning mindset to the conversation; the opportunity is for each of us to come away from the experience with a richer understanding of issues and how others see them.
