It’s that time of year: When every brand you encounter decides to take advantage of March Madness by trying to do a bracket of some sort. 

Well. Here we are. But we have a really good reason we’re doing this, we promise.  

In 2020, we asked you to Adopt a State. Together, we elected President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris, held the House, made new friends, fell in love, felt the rain on our skin, and took back the Senate.

In 2022, we need to mobilize volunteers around both nearby (House and local) and national (state-wide battlegrounds) opportunities to defend and grow progressive majorities. As much as you may have loved your adopted state—despite it being Florida—the House race an hour away and the ballot measure that could impact your own community need your help as well. 

That’s a lot of ground to cover. So, how do we do it? 

Introducing Midterm Madness 2022, Vote Save America’s biggest volunteer effort yet. Our new regional program will help guide you through everything you need to know on how to get involved in the most important elections in 2022.

Here’s a little bit about the regions:

EASTERN REGION

While this part of our country may look solid blue on an electoral map, a closer look will reveal the pink and orange of many Dunkin’ Donuts signs. In 2022 it will be home to some of the closest and most important races for our majorities in the House and Senate, including big statewide races in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire and competitive House races in almost every state, so there will be no shortage of ways to get involved right in your own backyard. 

- Who should sign up? If you live in Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, or Vermont, this is your team

WESTERN REGION

While Arizona and Nevada are the purple hotspots with major statewide races to get involved in, there are opportunities across the West, especially when it comes to keeping the House in Democratic control. What happens in Vegas, affects the rest of the country in a pretty major way for untold years to come, it turns out. 

- Who should sign up? If you live in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming this is your team

SOUTHERN REGION

The South set the standard for the rest of the nation following Joe Biden, Raphael Warnock, and Jon Ossoff’s 2020 victories in Georgia. Now, it’s time to replicate that success and expand the Georgia model regionwide.  We cloned Jon Ossoff 500 times and we need your help teaching all of them how to talk. Voters throughout the South will have the opportunity to volunteer in their community, with important work to be done from Virginia to Texas, including competitive Senate races in Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina. 

- Who should sign up? If you live in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or West Virginia this is your team

MIDWEST REGION

Rebuild the Blue Wall! Just kidding, but only sort of. (Build Blue Wall Back Better?) The Midwest will be at the center of it all once again, electorally as well as geographically. We’ll need to shore up our 2020 margins to protect our gains in 2024, especially in major statewide races in Wisconsin and Michigan.

- Who should sign up? If you live in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, or Wisconsin this is your team

Just like in 2020, our team is working closely with state parties, political strategists, and progressive organizations on the ground in key states in every region to find out how we can get to work and have the biggest impact. Everything we ask you to do will be informed by ongoing conversations with these in-state partners. 

It will definitely be a challenge, and we won’t know if this will all pay off until Election Day, but we can promise that, if you sign up to be part of Midterm Madness in 2022, you will be doing everything you can in the places that we need to expand our majorities and give our democracy a fighting chance going into 2024 and beyond.
