** Index on Censorship magazine marks its 50th birthday
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

This week is the 50th anniversary of the publication of the first issue of Index on Censorship magazine back in 1972 ([link removed]) . We marked the occasion at the Bishopsgate Institute in London, where our archives are held, and welcomed supporters including our publisher SAGE, partner organisations and members of staff for a slice of birthday cake. Guests were also treated to a discussion between Sir Trevor Phillips and Jonathan Dimbleby, present and past chairs of the organisation, and were given a first look at the 50th anniversary edition of the magazine. The new issue is out now ([link removed]) and features new writing from Sir Tom Stoppard, Margaret Atwood and Ariel Dorfman, as well as letters sent by Hong Kong publisher Jimmy Lai from his prison cell.
