MPI Is Out with Update to its One-Stop Resource for Stats on Immigration and Immigrants in the United States

WASHINGTON -- The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) today published the latest version of its popular resource "Frequently Requested Statistics on Immigrants and Immigration in the United States." The article offers a wealth of statistics on the U.S. immigrant population, immigration levels and enforcement.

Access it here: www.migrationpolicy.org/article/frequently-requested-statistics-immigrants-and-immigration-united-states.

The article from MPI's online magazine, the Migration Information Source, seeks to answer the most commonly asked questions on immigration, using data from agencies including the U.S. Census Bureau, Department of Homeland Security and State Department.

It puts current trends into historical context to showcase how recent patterns compare to the past and what is driving changes. Among the topics it covers are the changing size and makeup of the U.S. immigrant population, including immigrants' top origin countries, share of the overall U.S. population and socio-demographic information such as workforce participation, income and educational attainment. The article also offers information about naturalized citizens, refugees, green-card holders, temporary visitors and other foreign nationals in the United States. And it compiles data on enforcement actions, visa backlogs and other government activities.

In addition to this resource, MPI also recently updated the interactive tools on its Migration Data Hub. Readers may be particularly interested in the U.S. Immigration Trends tools, which can be found here: www.migrationpolicy.org/programs/data-hub/us-immigration-trends. Among these are:

- Maps showing in which states, counties and metro areas immigrants of different nationalities have clustered.
- An interactive graph showing the number of refugees resettled in the United States since the system began in 1980.
- A figure comparing the size and share of the immigrant population since 1850.
- An interactive chart on annual legal permanent immigration since 1820, and a downloadable spreadsheet with information on countries of origin.

Looking for more? MPI's online "Immigration Data Matters" guide is the starting point for data on international migration around the world. Created in partnership with the Population Reference Bureau, the document serves an index for migration data worldwide. Find it here: www.migrationpolicy.org/research/immigration-data-matters.

These and many other data tools are available at MPI's Migration Data Hub: www.migrationpolicy.org/datahub.
