When We All Vote

Hey John --

Today is All Women’s Equal Pay Day -- the day marking how far into the new year women must work to be paid what men made the previous year.

Women working full-time, year-round are typically paid 83 cents for every dollar paid to a man who works the same amount. Employers’ decisions to discriminate based on disability, age, parental status, and sexual orientation can continue to make it nearly impossible for women to earn what they deserve.

And let’s be clear -- the wage gap does not impact all women equally. Women of color must work even longer to catch up to men’s earnings. Black, Native American, and Latina women bear the burden of the wage gap the most.

Pay equity isn’t just a gender issue. It’s a racial issue. It’s a civic issue. So what can we do about it, John?

Elected officials can make a big difference in addressing the wage gap. Members of Congress, mayors, state legislators, and city councils all have the power to pass legislation and create policies to close this gap.

Women have always led the fight to build a stronger, more inclusive democracy, and our voting power is unmatched when we turn out at the ballot box. As we face voter suppression across the country, organizing our communities is important now more than ever.

This Equal Women’s Pay Day, take action and check your voter registration to make sure you can make your voice heard at the ballot box in your next election. >> [[link removed]]

Together, we can show the world what happens when all women vote.
