Hey John --
Today is All Women’s Equal Pay Day -- the day marking how far into the new year women must work to be paid what men made the previous year.
Women working full-time, year-round are typically paid 83 cents for every dollar paid to a man who works the same amount. Employers’ decisions to discriminate based on disability, age, parental status, and sexual orientation can continue to make it nearly impossible for women to earn what they deserve. And let’s be clear -- the wage gap does not impact all women equally. Women of color must work even longer to catch up to men’s earnings. Black, Native American, and Latina women bear the burden of the wage gap the most.
Pay equity isn’t just a gender issue. It’s a racial issue. It’s a civic issue. So what can we do about it, John? |
