“Patients won't have to fear as many surprise medical bills”

Americans receive roughly 10 million surprise bills a year amounting to thousands of dollars in unexpected charges.
But I have good news: John, that’s going to change.
I co-authored bipartisan legislation that went into effect at the beginning of this year that will help put a stop to surprise medical bills.
A patient receives a surprise medical bill when they inadvertently receive care from an out-of-network provider -- like when you go to an in-network hospital for a scheduled surgery but the anesthesiologist is out-of-network.
Surprise medical bills are pretty common, too, happening in about one out of five emergency room visits and one out of six in-network hospitalizations.
The new law will ban most unexpected medical charges from out-of-network providers, lower health care costs for patients, and keep more money in families’ pockets.
From less stress about health care costs to more money to spend on other important household expenses, this bill is going to have a real impact on people’s lives, and I want to hear from you, John.
