UKRAINE UPDATE: Over 2 MILLION refugees have fled Ukraine into neighboring countries. They'll need long-term support to recover and rebuild their lives. Will you become a monthly donor to help provide the continuing care refugee families need?

This is like nothing we've seen before, John: In just two weeks, the numbers of refugees fleeing conflict in Ukraine has ballooned to more than two million. Poland alone has taken in over 1.2 million refugees, the vast majority of whom are women and children.

Thanks to our incredible staff members and generous donors, we’ve been able to scale up our services and provide critical aid to families as they cross the border. But this crisis is far from over, and displaced families will need our help to recover and rebuild their lives. Please, if you can, set up a monthly donation to help us provide continuing support to displaced families in crisis zones like Ukraine:

We have been receiving regular updates from IRC colleagues who are on the ground in Poland, welcoming families crossing the border and partnering with local organizations to mobilize resources.

I've been so inspired by the women they have met, who have bravely led their families to safety while their husbands, fathers and brothers stayed behind to fight.

I found this quote from Lena, a writer from Kyiv, particularly moving:

"I feel desperate sometimes, but I never stop believing that we will resist and endure, because it's our home and our freedom that we are fighting for. I think about the women giving birth in bomb shelters right now. Life finds its way amidst destruction and I think this is how things are supposed to be — the light should defeat darkness.

Here in Ukraine we used to have this stereotypical image of women being very strong and stubborn, and now it proves to be true. Women in Ukraine, they are joining the army, finding shelter for refugees, and doing everything they can to help. Women are holding on and they're holding strong."

John, we are hearing countless testimonies like this every day. Our team is hard at work around the clock to respond to this crisis.

Families like Lena’s are facing a long, hard road ahead. Can you make a monthly gift of any amount to help us provide refugee families with the support they need, day after day, all year round?

We're not just here for displaced families in moments of crisis. We're here every day, all year round, for as long as they need — and we're able to do that because of supporters like you.
