Dear John,

If you know anything about The Advocates or the early years of the Libertarian Party, you probably have heard of Marshall. Many of you knew him.

Today, March 10, is the late-Marshall Fritz's birthday.

He was the Founder of the Advocates for Self-Government.

Will someone reading this be the next Marshall Fritz?

Will that person be you?

In 1977, Marshall had a libertarian awakening after reading work from Austrian economists and Murray Rothbard.

A few years later, in 1980, he attended his first libertarian gathering in central California and decided to volunteer. Between 1981 and 1982, Fritz started a libertarian newsletter, supper club, and even ran for office.

But Marshall knew he needed to do more, so he quit his sales job at IBM! Then, he sent the Libertarian Party of California a proposal to be the State Party Executive Director. He started his new career there selling libertarianism in January of 1983.

Almost two years later, he received initial funding for an idea. Marshall wanted to use his background in sales to train libertarians to teach their values to everyone. The Advocates for Self-Government was incorporated in September 1985. Shortly thereafter, he standardized the Nolan Chart quiz and put it on a business card, designed for easy tabulation. The World’s Smallest Political Quiz was born.

Of the almost 26 million people that have taken The Quiz, would the approximate 7.8 million people that came out as libertarian know they were libertarian without the help of Marshall Fritz?
Would our relationships with people be less respectful if Mr. Fritz did not work so hard to bring this organization to the public?

We may never know.

** What we do know is that you can be the next Marshall Fritz.
------------------------------------------------------------
Unfortunately, Marshall passed away too soon in 2008.

We lost a shining light for the libertarian movement. But it’s his birth that we’re asking you to help us celebrate today, because Marshall used that life to cause a gigantic ripple effect.

As we celebrate the birth and life of Marshall Fritz, we ask that you send a donation in his memory. We’re ready not just with his World’s Smallest Political Quiz, but also with other tools we can use to find the next 7.8 million libertarians.

If you have any stories to tell about time you spent with Marshall or memories of the impact he or The Advocates for Self-Government has had on you, we would LOVE to hear about them. Please reply to this email.
