REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS RALLY AND SPEAKER PANEL
Tuesday, March 8, 12PM to 3PM
Join Metro Detroit DSA and Wayne State YDSA this Tuesday, March 8th, International Women's Day, for a rally and speaker panel in collaboration with Reproductive Rights of Michigan.
With the ultra-conservative United States Supreme Court set to issue a ruling on Roe V. Wade in late Spring/early Summer, the right to bodily autonomy via abortion has the potential to be greatly crippled depending on their ruling. Reproductive Rights of Michigan has been organizing a series of actions for several months now protesting the expected outcome of this looming decision and rallying public support for women's health and reproductive rights, which of course includes access to safe abortions.
The upcoming rally will be outdoors at 12pm EST at Gullen Mall on Wayne State's Campus followed by an indoor panel of Reproductive Rights experts and activists at 1pm- including fellow Detroit DSA'er Colleen McDaniel! If you are interested, please RSVP as soon as possible so we can ensure you meet all on-campus COVID-19 requirements before Tuesday. See you there!

ENDORSEMENT REQUESTS
The Electoral Committee is in the process of working through endorsement requests from three different candidates:
- Dylan Wegela, State House District 26 <[link removed]> - Dylan will be interviewed in Tuesday's meeting.
- Roslyn Ogburn, State House District 3 <[link removed]> - We are awaiting district and opponent research in order to vote on interviewing the candidate. This may happen as early as Tuesday.
- Greg Reyner, U.S Congressional District 13 <[link removed]> - Electoral Committee will vote in Tuesday's meeting about whether or not we will conduct research on this district before considering an interview with the candidate.
The Electoral Committee is tasked with deciding whether or not we should decline to endorse or move the endorsement request to the Steering Committee, our 25 member elected leadership body. If approved by the Steering Committee, it would be moved to a General Meeting for a final decisive vote by membership. Read about our endorsement policy here <[link removed]> and read our 2022 electoral strategy here <[link removed]>.

In order to vote in the Electoral Committee on any of the steps in the endorsement process for these candidates, members must have attended at least two Electoral Committee meetings within the last year so be sure to join us every Tuesday at 7PM on Zoom (Zoom meeting link here <[link removed]>)!

DSA FOR RASHIDA
Our chapter voted overwhelmingly in favor (207 YES, 4 NO, 3 ABSTAIN) of re-endorsing DSA member Rashida Tlaib for Congress for a third time. It was our highest turnout for a vote ever!
Now you have one more decision to make: Will you make this campaign our biggest ever?
Do you want to see a strong DSA for Rashida campaign that:
- shows people that democratic socialism is alive and well in the post-Bernie era?
- expands our territory into new working-class areas?
- forges new connections with local unions and community colleges?
- raises Metro Detroit DSA’s profile nationally?
- activates our members, recruits new members, and builds new leaders?
We can do a lot more than knock some doors between now and the August primary election, but only if you get involved early! This campaign gives us the ability to talk about so many issues - Medicare For All, a Green New Deal, good union jobs with a living wage, education & housing for all, canceling student debt, and more - all in the name of one of the most popular democratic socialists currently serving in office and the socialist organization of which she’s a member! But this can only be made possible with mass participation from our membership.
Ready to take the next step to win socialism in Michigan? Here’s how:
- Join the DSA for Rashida Comms Team! We need all researchers, writers, artists, designers, and online posting warriors to bring your brain and muscle for a beautiful propaganda operation! The first step in building our campaign will be creating the physical and digital materials that we share both online and in-person with folks while organizing in Rashida’s 12th Congressional District. Share your contact informationhere <[link removed]> to find out about the first Comms Team meeting!
- Sign up to volunteer on the DSA For Rashida campaign! Rashida has thousands of supporters in her new district and we need YOUR help to bring them into DSA through direct outreach by making phone calls, knocking doors, hosting town halls, and more! Share your contact information here <[link removed]> and we will reach out.

We organize regularly using the Slack app. If you'd like to get involved with planning chapter activities, sign-up for a user account HERE <[link removed]>.
Detroit DSA is a 1200+ member funded organization. We receive no money from outside sources so we can say things like "Defund the Police" and "Abolish ICE" without losing funding, and we will always act democratically in the interests of our members and the working class! If you're able to, we ask that you make monthly contributions as they more directly benefit our chapter. Thank you for whatever amount you're able to contribute!
If you think your dues are out of date, renew your dues here: dsausa.org/join <[link removed]> anduse the email address currently associated with your DSA membership.
