My heart is heavy today, friend.

By invading Ukrainian territory and attempting to rewrite history, Vladimir Putin is responsible for unimaginable death, violence, and displacement.

Just a few weeks ago, in my capacity as member of both the House Foreign Affairs and Armed Services Committees, I stood in the areas of Kyiv that we are now seeing flash across the news.

As a mother, I'm thinking of the little girl in the dance leotard I saw cross the street in the rain – I wonder where she is now, and if she's safe ...

I know from far away, it can seem like we're helpless to what we see on our TV screens. But that isn't true – which is why I'm sharing a few resources with which you can help Ukrainians through this crisis:

– The International Committee of the Red Cross supports victims of armed conflict with emergency medical assistance, shelter, and food. You can donate here.

– At a time like this, free and independent journalism is more important than ever – which is why you can support The Kyiv Independent newspaper at their GoFundMe.

– Razom supports democracy-building efforts in Ukraine. Now, in response to the war, they're raising money for critical supplies.

– The Voices of Children Foundation has supported Ukrainian children with psychological help since 2015. Now, they've expanded to offer help to families. You can chip in here.
