In February, we celebrated two historic firsts. President Biden nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. Judge Jackson has an amazing career of public defense and protecting worker rights, immigrant rights, and democracy. She is the first Black woman ever nominated to serve on the Supreme Court – which is a long overdue milestone. Countless highly qualified Black women have been passed over for our highest Court, so we are thrilled this omission has finally been corrected.

AND the Senate took its first-ever vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), which would protect the right to abortion across the U.S. While WHPA did not pass the Senate, this vote was a critical step in building key legislative support for abortion access. Over 500 health care providers from across the country signed our letter [[link removed]] in support of WHPA.

I also want to share a few more highlights with you, including PRH Fellow Dr. Kanthi Dhaduvai’s letter in The Florida Times-Union sharing why Florida's pending 15-week abortion ban, which was just passed by the state legislature late last night, will hurt people and families.

Florida abortion bill is misguided and dangerous

PRH Fellow Dr. Kanthi Dhaduvai wrote a letter to the editor of The Florida Times-Union sharing the real threat Florida's proposed 15-week abortion ban will have on the communities where she lives and works. Earlier, 450+ health care providers also sent a letter to Florida lawmakers denouncing this ban.

Yesterday, the Florida Senate gave final approval to this cruel ban and it will now head to Gov. Ron DeSantis who has indicated that he will sign it into law.
