Dear John,
An article in the Racism & Health issue examines inequities in the use
of high-quality home health agencies.
Inequities In Home Health Agency Use
In 2017, home health care was used by approximately 3.4 million
homebound Medicare beneficiaries and cost Medicare $18 billion.
Medicare home health provides skilled nursing care; physical,
occupational, and speech therapies; medical social services; and
intermittent home health aide services.
In their February article, Shekinah Fashaw-Walters and coauthors examine
the associations between Medicare home health patients' individual-
and neighborhood-level characteristics and receipt of care from
high-quality home health agencies
.
They report that Black, Hispanic, and low-income home health patients
have lower use of high-quality home health agencies, on average, than
their White and higher-income counterparts, even when living in
neighborhoods with similar racial and income characteristics
Elsewhere At Health Affairs
Today in Health Affairs Forefront, Colin Espie and coauthors discuss how
the burgeoning digital therapeutics market
has the potential to transform mental health care.
Sarah Kolk discusses how policy makers, using the Principles of
Environmental Justice, can address environmental inequities
that cause health inequities
