Unique challenges exist at the intersection of Blackness and queerness — Black LGBTQ young people hold multiple marginalized identities, making them particularly susceptible to mental health concerns. Experiences of discrimination, rejection, threats, and violence are compounded and can lead to negative mental health outcomes. In the past year, 53% of Black LGBTQ youth wanted counseling from a mental health professional but didn’t get it. This is why The Trevor Project is committed to ensuring that Black LGBTQ youth are supported, represented, and provided with free and confidential care year round.
