‌FROM THE DESK OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Memo re: highs & lows from the last few weeks

Alabama »
The Supreme Court made a shadow docket decision to allow a gerrymandered congressional map to be used in the 2022 midterm elections. A.G. Holder said this map -- that a federal court deemed discriminatory -- is a “textbook violation of the Voting Rights Act.”

North Carolina »
Within hours of the NC Supreme Court striking down both the legislative AND congressional maps, our North Carolina team had planned a rapid response meeting and mobilized activists. As A.G. Holder said, “Republicans “underestimated the tenacity of North Carolinians and our preparedness to fight for the right to vote in free and fair elections.”

Ohio »
Map drawers in Ohio are running out the clock on the current court-ordered redraw -- after the Ohio Supreme Court deemed the gerrymandered legislative and congressional maps unconstitutional. Unlike these map drawers, Ohio voters are committed to fair maps and we are committed to supporting them in any way we can.
With two AOTL states currently in the redraw process, we need the help of grassroots supporters. Will you chip in?

Florida »
Governor DeSantis tried to hijack the redistricting process and get the FL Supreme Court to pre-emptively approve the blueprint for his discriminatory map -- luckily the Court denied his unprecedented request. The fight for fair maps isn’t over in Florida -- but this was a big win for fair map advocates!

The redistricting landscape is changing every day. Our collective actions during this time could be the difference between voters being able to fairly elect leaders who represent their interests -- or another decade of obstruction.

Just this week, A.G. Holder echoed those words and reminded us of what is at stake.

A.G. Holder: “If we grow complacent and come up short in this final phase of redistricting, we will have to wait until 2031 to achieve fair maps.”

Thanks for all you do,
Biz
