Change has never been made alone.

Dear Friends,

Today marks the beginning of two very important celebrations.

First, I would like to wish you all a very happy Lunar New Year! I hope that the Year of the Tiger will usher in a year of prosperity, good health, and abundance. The Tiger has always been a symbol of strength, bravery, and courage.

Second, I want to honor the giants whose shoulders I stand on—black leaders who have paved the way. Particularly the matriarchs of my family, growing up in Louisiana, my grandmother started working on a plantation at five years old, and her persistence in civic engagement and the fight for liberation is why I’m in this work. Please join me in celebrating this rich history during Black History Month and all year. Without their contributions and sacrifices, we would not be the nation we are today. It is also essential to carry on the legacy left for us and continue pushing for a more just society for all.

One thing can be sure as we celebrate the past and look toward the future. Change has never been made alone. In this newsletter, there are straightforward ways for you to join us in our fight for a better nation, one that has a place for all of us.

Thank you so much for your support, and I look forward to fighting by your side.

Best,
Brencia Berry
Director of Coalitions and Community Engagement

Join & Share the Campaign Readiness Project

It is essential we train people on building diverse and culturally competent coalitions on the ground! Can you think of 5 people that value community engagement in marginalized communities? Please share this opportunity with them!

The Campaign Readiness Project is a train-to-hire bootcamp at the DNC with the goal of supporting states in their recruitment, training, and hiring of diverse, talented, and local staff for specific roles and skill sets on Coordinated Campaigns. Participation in these bootcamps will expand opportunities for consideration for campaign roles in targeted states with the aim of helping elect Democrats up and down the ballot.

The Coalitions Bootcamp will be held virtually on Saturday, February 26.

Happy Lunar New Year!

Best wishes to all those celebrating the Year of the Tiger. The DNC hopes that this new year brings about a new beginning and ushers in an era of hope, growth, and progress. We want to celebrate the diverse and rich cultures that span our nation and that are a vital part to our country’s identity. Diversity is a strength of our party, and it is important that we continue to advance our values of inclusion. The future of our nation will affect all who reside in it, and even those abroad, not just the select few.

Celebrating Black History Month

In the month of February, the DNC celebrates the irreplaceable contributions of Black Americans to our nation. The achievements of historical giants such as Marsha P. Johnson, Fannie Lou Hamer, and C.T. Vivian, among many others, have done so much to not only enrich our country, but the world at large. Along with this celebration, it is just as vital to recognize the barriers put ahead of them solely because of the color of their skin. Many of these same barriers still remain today, and the Democratic Party is fully committed to the continued fight for justice.
