** Ambition, adaptation and altered mindsets: what COP26 needs to deliver
------------------------------------------------------------
The highly anticipated COP26 Climate Summit starts this weekend. Some have labelled it the world’s last great hope to unite the world in addressing climate change, but will it live up to its promise?

As world leaders gather in Glasgow, the decisions they make will have major implications for decades to come. With momentum building, Forum’s Associate Director for Climate, Dhaval Negandhi ([link removed]) , and Director - UK/Europe, Hannah Pathak ([link removed]) , call out five key things the Summit must address if we are to achieve deep transformation in the way the world works: raising ambition; decisive action on adaptation; ensuring just transitions; promoting systems thinking; and going beyond net zero to embrace a just and regenerative mindset.

** Net Zero as a milestone, not destination
------------------------------------------------------------

Talk around the 'race to zero’ is only getting louder as COP26 comes closer – but are Net Zero approaches really enough given the environmental and social challenges we face?

On 16 November, Forum will launch a new report exploring the next wave of sustainability: ‘just and regenerative’. We’re set to define what this means for business, why it matters and how to get there.

In advance of the launch, Forum’s Associate Director – Transformational Strategies, James Payne ([link removed]) , and Global Programmes Director, Caroline Ashley ([link removed]) , outline three reasons reasons why we should now all be setting our sights on a truly 'just and regenerative' future, and why this will unlock the transformation we need.

** Protein Challenge Southeast Asia: Call to Action out now
------------------------------------------------------------

People, planet, and protein. The production and consumption of protein sits at the nexus of multiple sustainability issues in the Southeast Asia region, with critical implications for human health and livelihoods, biodiversity protection and how we solve for climate change. What are the requirements for evolving the protein system towards one that is just and regenerative?

At a recent webinar ([link removed]) , our team shared a Case for Action report, setting out requirements for evolving the protein system in Southeast Asia towards one that is just and regenerative in its outcomes and crucially, fit for the future. This report raises important questions about the effectiveness of current interventions in sustainable protein, and the critical role of financial actors in driving a truly future-fit protein system.

Reimagining post-COVID cities: a gendered approach
Post COVID-19 visions have prioritised resilient infrastructure, local governance, even green futures but are largely devoid of ways to make cities better places for women. How can urban planners implement a gender-sensitive recovery to ensure women have equal access to cities?

Ashali Bhandari ([link removed]) fromTransitions Research ([link removed]) joins us on the Futures Centre to explore how Indian cities can reimagine equitable urban systems.

Applying regenerative practice to systems beyond place
Putting living systems back in the equation isn’t easy work, but it is possible, and deeply rewarding. Where might we start? Laura Winn ([link removed]) , Forum's Head of School of System Change, offers three sets of practices that can support a regenerative outlook, even when working with systems that seem disconnected with place.

** Nature and climate: our single existential crisis
------------------------------------------------------------

October’s first phase of the UN Biodiversity Conference put a spotlight on the urgent need to conserve, restore and sustainably manage the world’s biodiversity and ecosystems – but its goals continue to be largely overshadowed by the COP26 Climate Summit.

It's clear that we are not yet recognising the deep, intricate connections between nature and climate, which in turns undermines our ability to solve for either of these challenges in the long term.

Forum’s Dhaval Negandhi ([link removed]) , and Chief Development Officer, Jane Lawton ([link removed]) , explore the critical shifts needed if we’re to look at nature and climate as the single existential crisis it truly is.
