Most importantly, here is what is NOT happening: the MDC DSA Picnic, which will be rescheduled.

“This Sunday's July Picnic Is Cancelled Due To Adverse Weather

“Due to the extreme heatwave that is predicted for the Washington DC area this weekend, the Steering Committee has decided to cancel and reschedule this Sunday's Metro DC DSA Picnic. Temperatures on Sunday are predicted to be a high of 98 degrees, and when combined with humidity feel like 113 degrees. The Committee is always looking out for the safety and health of our members at our events and has determined that hosting the picnic in these conditions could put members' health at risk. The Steering Committee plans to reschedule the picnic for a different date and will let chapter members know when the new date is finalized.”

Join Stomp out Slumlords this Saturday, July 20, at the DC Tenant Townhall ([link removed]) . The Townhall is at All Souls Church (1500 Harvard St NW) from 12PM-3PM. Tenant associations leaders from Congress Heights to Cathedral Heights to celebrate our victories in the past year, discuss our vision for the city, form neighborhood-based chapters, an elect leaders for a new organization. SOS will be screenprinting t-shirts nearby after the event, come join us for class struggle and summer fun.

AND mark your calendars: the Migrant Justice Working Group will be confronting another deportation profiteer on August 15. AIRLINE FOOD WORKERS INVITE MDC DSA ALLIES TO JOIN INFORMATIONAL PICKET LINE JULY 23 TO DEMAND THAT ONE JOB SHOULD BE ENOUGH
Tuesday, July 23 UNITE HERE National Airline Food Workers Informational Picket Line, ([link removed]) 5 PM at Reagan National Airport. RSVP here. ([link removed]) MDC DSA’s Steering Committee has voted to endorse the action. Solidarity supporters mass at DCA Terminal B South Terrace upper level at departures from 4:30-5:15, then on to the historic Terminal A lobby at 5:30 for the rally. Confirmed speakers include Pres. Sara Nelson of the Association of Flight Attendants, as well as Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Support UNITE HERE members who prepare and load the food served on American, Delta and United Airlines planes in D.C. and across the mid-Atlantic. In June, 11,000 airline catering workers nationwide voted to authorize strikes ([link removed]) when released by the government. Nationally, the majority of the food workers serving these airlines still earn less than $15 per hour – and health care has become unaffordable.

The week of July 22, catering workers nationwide will mobilize to end poverty in the airline industry, anchored by this informational picket at Reagan National Airport. Workers who prepare food for American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines flights at sixteen of the country’s biggest airports have all taken strike authorization votes. National actions will be taking place at airports all through the week of July 22^nd; stay current here ([link removed]) . UNITE HERE, which last year took 7,700 Marriott workers on strike, is committed to ending poverty in this industry once and for all. DC Statehood Hearing Postponed
The House of Representatives hearing on DC statehood, originally scheduled for July 24 (as reported in the July Socialist ([link removed]) ) has been postponed ([link removed]) until the fall at a date to be determined.
The hearing, to be held by the Committee on Oversight and Reform, was postponed so as not to conflict with the congressional testimony of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller, which was rescheduled for the same date.
The Socialist will post a report when a new time and date for the statehood hearing is announced. – Bill Mosley
