Monday Nature Mystery

We are pleased to announce the winner of our Monday Nature Mystery, John Wilson! Please email us your snail mail address and preference for a hat or tote bag to: [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]?subject=Monday%20Nature%20Mystery%20Winner!)

Congratulations to John for correctly identifying the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus varius) from the holes they left behind in the American Holly tree. One cool fact about this species from All About Birds ([link removed]) is that they make two types of holes - round ones are deeper while rectangular holes are more shallow and require maintenance. YB Sapsuckers eat the cambium of the tree as well!
