At 22 months, Florence had started to feel sick, throwing up in the early mornings, with no signs of improvement. While her parents, Eugenia and Richard, did not want to visit an emergency room during a pandemic, they desperately wanted to find out why their daughter was so sick. They decided to take a chance at Children's Hospital Los Angeles's Emergency Department.

Eugenia and Richard's worst nightmare came to life. Florence was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. But through this terrifying experience, they found that Children's Hospital Los Angeles was the best place for their daughter to get the care and treatment she needed.

Eugenia knew the challenges the care team faced navigating COVID-19 while trying to keep immunocompromised patients, like Florence, safe.
