This celebration was launched with a proclamation by President Ronald Reagan ([link removed]) in 1984.[1] ([link removed]) Today, the average American consumes 23 pounds of ice cream annually.[2] ([link removed])
According to the International Dairy Foods Association, the 10 most popular flavors of ice cream are:
* Vanilla
* Chocolate
* Cookies N’ Cream
* Mint Chocolate Chip
* Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
* Buttered Pecan
* Cookie Dough
* Strawberry
* Moose Tracks
* Neapolitan
Not surprisingly, June and July are the busiest months for ice cream production. But, over the course of a year, 898 million gallons of ice cream are produced.
