Friend -- I believe the party with the most votes should *also* win the most seats. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case lately.

And gerrymandering is to blame when it comes to local elections. Rather than drawing districts that are compact, follow existing municipal borders, encourage competitive elections, or keep communities of interest intact, map manipulators draw lines that intentionally dilute the voting power of constituents who don't support their party.

Just take a look at some of the numbers:

NC:
Votes for Democrats: 49%
Seats held by Democrats: 23%

Votes for Republicans: 51%
Seats held by Republicans: 77%

WI:
Votes for Democrats: 54%
Seats held by Democrats: 38%

Votes for Republicans: 46%
Seats held by Republicans: 62%

OH:
Votes for Democrats: 48%
Seats held by Democrats: 25%

Votes for Republicans: 52%
Seats held by Republicans: 75%

AG Holder knows, first hand, how these skewed lines can block our progress. It's why he traveled to Virginia for Get Out The Vote efforts with Virginia General Assembly candidates this weekend ahead of today's important election there.

If you -- like AG Holder -- believe that maps should fairly represent communities instead of escalate partisan advantage, help All On The Line fight gerrymandering.

The fight for fair maps happens in the states. In Virginia, the folks who are elected to their state legislature today will decide who draws the lines in 2021 and whether or not they're drawn fairly. That's a sobering reminder that the next redistricting cycle is just around the corner. We have limited time to build a well-oiled organizing machine to stop map manipulators from the jump. Join us.

P.S. If you have a local election today, be sure to head to the polls! And if not, it's a great time to check that your voter registration is up-to-date with your current address and to make sure you haven't been purged from your state's voting rolls. Head to Vote.org to find your polling place or check your voter registration!
