Dear Ward 8 Residents:
On Friday, December 17th, I received a positive test result for COVID-19. At this time, I am following the necessary protocols to keep my family and the community safe. Please keep me in your prayers at this time.
I am very concerned about the rising number of COVID-19 outbreaks, especially within the school system. The District’s reported data for December 21st includes, 1,524 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the District’s overall positive cases to 77,661.
With the rise in holiday gatherings, I urge residents to do their part to slow down the rate of infection. Here are some updates regarding testing and covid-related mandates: ([link removed])
* Self-Testing Kits are available at the pick-up and drop-off sites indicated in the graph below. Residents can continue to access free PCR COVID-19 tests at locations across the District, including at eight firehouse sites.
* Rapid Test Kits are available to residents at eight locations across the city. The Rapid Antigen COVID-19 testing kits will be available at eight District libraries, six days a week. Residents can get two free rapid tests per day.
* The indoor mask mandate has been reinstated until January 31, 2022 at 6:00am.
* All employees, contractors, interns, and grantees of DC Government must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must have a booster.
To receive up-to-date information on COVID-19 related issues, visit www.coronavirus.dc.gov. ([link removed]) Stay home if you feel sick, get tested, and rethink your holiday plans to do your part to slow down the spread.
Regards,
Councilmember Trayon White, Sr.

With the help of a national nonprofit, DC’s next election could be a mobile affair.
Tusk Philanthropies ([link removed]) , a nonprofit focused on anti-hunger and mobile voting, is bringing the latter to DC with an initiative for DC Council.
In July, Councilmember Trayon White introduced a bill ([link removed]) that would allow DC voters to cast a vote via a mobile device. This would be offered alongside a traditional option like a mail-in ballot.
So far, the bill has only made it to the Committee of Judiciary and Public Safety, but the effort has inspired Tusk to bring its Mobile Voting ([link removed]) project to DC, with the hope of launching the option in the coming years.
