** Smashing Stereotypes in Advertising
------------------------------------------------------------
This week, we published Smashing Stereotypes in Advertising ([link removed]) a new guide published in collaboration LIONS ([link removed]) .
It draws on landmark research by our Commission on Gender Stereotypes, Unlimited Potential ([link removed]) , and supports advertising, marketing and communications practitioners who want to actively challenge gender stereotypes throughout the creative process.
The guidelines provide a blueprint for action, from pitching and story-boarding to styling and casting. It presents case studies and a checklist for the creative industry to draw upon at every stage.

** Who Gets to Play Now?
------------------------------------------------------------
Our friends at Let Toys Be Toys have published new research this week, Who Gets to Play Now? ([link removed]) The research shows real progress since 2015, with more ads featuring both boys and girls, and fewer categories where either boys or girls are excluded altogether, but stereotypes are still widespread.
Let Toys Be Toys volunteer researchers analysed over 300 ads to examine what theyβre telling kids about what it means to be a boy or a girl, repeating research carried out in 2015. It found that:
β‘οΈ 49% of ads featuring children have both boys and girls, up from 36% in 2015
β‘οΈ 63% of ads for construction toys featured girls, up from just one out of 7 in 2015
β‘οΈ 30% of ads featured only girls, up from 28% in 2015
