TELL THE SENATE: STOP SUBSIDIZING FOSSIL FUELS AND FALSE CLIMATE
SOLUTIONS!

Dear GGJ members and supporters,
We are at a vital moment with the Build Back Better Act which passed the
House last month and is now before the Senate. This Act is a
once-in-a-generation opportunity that can deliver transformational change
by uplifting communities, creating sustainable jobs, and combating climate
change.
While we have fought for substantial funding for climate, care, and
justice, the bill also invests in harmful energy technologies that will
devastate frontline communities by subsidizing dirty energy and
incentivizing continued oil and gas extraction. These include:
* Nuclear power production
* Biofuels, including funding for biofuels development, and the Biofuels
Infrastructure Program
* Carbon Capture and Storage, including coal, fracking, and enhanced oil
recovery projects
* Hydrogen power production that depends on fossil fuel energy
* Waste-to-energy production, which is incineration of municipal solid
waste that produces high levels of local pollution
Today 140 ORGANIZATIONS TOLD THE SENATE [2]: No to dirty energy in the
Build Back Better Act! To reverse the climate crisis at the scale and pace
so urgently required, we need to reduce direct emissions and transition to
renewable energy instead of extending the life of polluting fossil fuel
infrastructure. A just economic recovery means this bill must do no harm.
Please join us in calling on the Senate to remove these destructive
expenditures. We are inviting both organizations and individuals to SUPPORT
THE LETTER [3] we have sent to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate
Finance Chair Ron Wyden, and Senate Agriculture Chair Debbie Stabenow.

Estimados miembros y simpatizantes de GGJ,
Estamos en un momento vital de la Ley Build Back Better que fue aprobada
por la Cámara de Representantes el mes pasado y ahora está ante el
Senado. Esta Ley es una oportunidad única en una generación que puede
ofrecer un cambio transformador al elevar a las comunidades en todo Estados
Unidos, crear empleos sostenibles y luchar contra el cambio climático.
Si bien hemos luchado por fondos sustanciales para el clima, el cuidado y
la justicia, este proyecto de ley también invierte en tecnologías
energéticas dañinas que devastarán las comunidades de primera línea al
ofrecer créditos fiscales que subsidien e incentiven la extracción
continua de petróleo y gas. Estos incluyen:
* Producción de energía nuclear
* Biocombustibles, incluida la financiación para el desarrollo de
biocombustibles, y el Programa de Infraestructura de Biocombustibles
* Captura y almacenamiento de carbono, incluidos el carbón, el fracking y
los proyectos de recuperación asistida de petróleo
* Producción de energía de hidrógeno que depende de la energía de

en la Ley Build Back Better! Para revertir la crisis climática a la escala
y el ritmo necesarios con tanta urgencia, debemos reducir las emisiones
directas y hacer la transición a la energía renovable en vez de prolongar
la vida útil de la infraestructura contaminante de combustibles fósiles.
Una recuperación económica justa exige que este proyecto de ley no cause
daño.
