Raising Awareness of PAD on the Hill

On October 30, WomenHeart hosted a briefing on Capitol Hill to raise
awareness of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) and its impact on women
and African Americans. Representative Donald Payne, Jr. (D-NJ),
WomenHeart Champion Pamela Parker and others spoke about the need to
eliminate barriers to information and screening and to address
disparities in diagnosis and care. Read more about the event here and
then take action. Ask your representative to join the PAD Caucus.

New Class of Champions Completes Training at Mayo Clinic

WomenHeart hosted its 18th annual Science & Leadership Symposium
October 11-13 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. The new champions
came well prepared and left eager to be our boots on the ground. In
fact, they have already kicked off peer-to-peer fundraisers in support
of WomenHeart with a class goal of raising $10,000. The tireless
leadership of Dr. Sharonne Hayes, the staff at Mayo Clinic and our
District Leaders in attendance made this weekend possible.

Addressing Native American Women's Heart Health

In order to address the impact of heart disease on Native American
women, WomenHeart partnered with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood
Institute (NHLBI) at NIH late last year to host a convening of
researchers, health care providers, advocates and patients -
including WomenHeart Champion Brandie Taylor. We shared stories and
knowledge and discussed ways of working together to address this
challenge. Read the summary of our meeting, recently posted on the
NHLBI website.
