The COP26 climate summit is over. Where did things land? In a comprehensive new article, WRI’s Helen Mountford and other WRI experts unpack the major outcomes and the many pledges and commitments. Although emissions-reduction commitments fell short of what is needed to limit average temperature increases to 1.5 degrees C (2.7 degrees F), there was progress on other fronts, including pledges on methane emissions, greater attention to loss and damage, and agreement on important rules underpinning how the Paris Agreement will be implemented.
