This year marks Earthjustice’s 50th anniversary, and what a year it has been. Thanks to your steadfast support and others like you in our Earthjustice community, we’ve been able to accomplish so much. From reining in toxic pesticides to protecting national monuments, we’ve secured dozens of transformative victories for the environment.

Here are a few examples of the fights we won thanks to your ongoing commitment.

Restoring access to clean water:
Millions of streams and wetlands across the country had protections restored under the Clean Water Act. This was the result of a lawsuit brought by six federally recognized Indian tribes, who were represented in court by Earthjustice.

Reining in Toxic Pesticides:
After years of exposing faulty science and pushing back against government delays, Earthjustice and farmworker groups secured a federal ban on all food uses of chlorpyrifos — one of many toxic pesticides that we are working to ban.

Fighting for Clean Air:
Partnering with local environmental justice groups, Earthjustice forced serial polluter Phillips 66 to agree to fix toxic emissions leaks after years of illegal and catastrophic air pollution from its Los Angeles oil refineries — many of which are located in communities of color that consequently suffer from sky-high rates of asthma, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.

Protecting National Monuments:
After years of pressure from the public and relentless legal work by Earthjustice and our partners, the Biden administration restored protections to Bears Ears, Grand Staircase Escalante, and Northeast Canyons and Seamounts National Monuments.

Cleaning up Coal Ash:
Earthjustice helped develop and push through Illinois’ first-ever rules specifically targeting coal ash pollution, a toxic byproduct of burning coal that contaminates waterways with heavy metals such as arsenic. The rules ensure greater transparency and public participation around clean-up.
