If you came across Kodet in the fields of Uganda, you might see him
wearing a bright smile while tending to his livestock. He raises cattle
and goats to provide milk and income for his family.

Mercy Corps helps farmers like Kodet address the underlying issues that
impact food insecurity.


But Kodet’s livelihood is at risk: cattle raids, drought, and shrinking
pasture have led to routine food shortages.

To help address these challenges, Kodet participated in a Mercy Corps
training on improved livestock management. He also received seeds to start
pasture gardens with supplemental shrubs and grass to feed his animals.
After all, "hungry animals cannot provide for hungry people," he says.

Just this year, Mercy Corps has reached 6.5 million people around the
world through similar agriculture programs. Together with local
communities — and your support — we’re tackling the root causes of hunger
and malnutrition by promoting better nutrition, strengthening agricultural
livelihoods, and introducing new training and income opportunities.

Kodet’s pasture gardens are now thriving with leafy shrubs and elephant
grass. His animals are healthier thanks to their new diet, and they’re
producing more milk for his children. When it comes time to sell the
animals, their healthy condition will earn Kodet a higher profit, which he
can use for his kids’ school fees.
