In all our conversations with community members, we’re trying to drive home one point: every single vote matters. Your vote is your voice and it could mean the difference between adequate funding for the community-led violence intervention programs we know work and new laws to keep our schools and neighborhoods safer or more empty thoughts and prayers.
So many elections—especially local races—come down to just a handful of votes. Last year, a Pennsylvania Senate seat was decided by 69 votes. A House of Representatives seat in Iowa came down to just six votes.
That’s why these last few days before the election are so vitally important. This time is crucial for educating voters and motivating them to make it to the polls. Local elected leaders play a critical role in public education about, implementation of, and funding for gun safety laws.
