Action Alert - CONTACT YOUR SENATORS: "Pass the Violence Against Women
Reauthorization Act" – During October's Domestic Violence Awareness Month
===========================
October 28, 2019
Dear NOW leaders and activists,
It has been six months since the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1585, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019 (VAWA), with strong bipartisan support. It is critically important that the Senate take action on this bill, which maintains protections for violence survivors and makes needed enhancements to better respond to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking.
The bill Increases authorization for the Rape Prevention & Education Program from $50 million to $150 million to address skyrocketing need for community prevention programs; returns sovereignty to tribes to prosecute non-native offenders; and Improves enforcement of current federal domestic violence-related firearms laws and closes loopholes to reduce firearm-involved abuse and intimate partner homicide, among many other improvements.
This Domestic Violence Awareness Month we need to keep up the pressure on the Senate. They need to hear from their constituents that VAWA must be passed and signed into law. You can leave a voice mail message or ask to speak to a staffer.
PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATORS NOW – YOUR MESSAGE:
I am a voter in __ (Your State) _______ and I know how important that Violence Against Women programs are to women in our state. Please take action now to move the VAWA Reauthorization Act to a floor vote. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and women in our state are depending on you to get VAWA passed into law.
