Below my signature is an email I sent a few days ago. It was about Trump’s secret police in 2020, and how the surveillance state has grown under both Republicans and Democrats.
In Congress, I will push to end the surveillance state and the endless abuses of civil liberty perpetrated by the government on its people: us. Can you rush a $7 donation now to help me win, so I can do that? -> [link removed]
Here’s what I propose to do about it:
-Prosecute Trump and his assorted thugs, like Stephen Miller, who broke laws and violated the Constitution, and put them in prison.
-End the NSA’s surveillance of U.S. citizens.
-Repeal the multiple Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs), including the Iraq, Gulf War, and Cold War AUMFs.
-Abolish DHS, an agency that is less than 20 years old, is unaccountable, and essentially acts as the president’s private army.
-End transfers of equipment from the military and DHS to police departments, as well as grants that let local police departments buy equipment like the surveillance plane that flies over Tacoma during protests.
I need your help to push for these policies. My opponent raised $298,773 last quarter. For a corporate Democrat, that’s easy, but I don’t get a lot of $2,900 checks. My average donation this month is $22.94, and I like it that way. Can you join in supporting this campaign with whatever you can afford? -> [link removed]
If you’re ready for someone who’s NOT funded by corporations and who will actually stand up to the surveillance state to protect our civil liberties, please chip in here with $7 or whatever you can afford:

Last year in Portland, federal agents in unmarked vans snatched protestors off the street without a word and took them away for questioning. The protestors weren’t told why they were being held or if they were even under arrest.
That was dangerous, secret-police behavior.
In Congress, I will fight back against abuses of civil liberty by the government. Can you rush a $7 donation now, so I can stand up to governmental overreach in Congress? -> [link removed]
During the 2020 protests in Tacoma, a DHS-funded surveillance plane flew over us and police cars drove by us, collecting data from our phones using stingray technology.
Sadly, militarization of the police and increased surveillance and crackdowns on protestors have increased under both Democratic and Republican rule. US citizens who have not been charged with a crime can be black bagged, thrown into an unmarked van, and held indefinitely in a black site.
If Republicans take the House in 2022 and the White House in 2024, it will be truly scary to see how this escalates.
That’s why we need Democrats in office who will fight back against governmental overreach. Who will stand up to both Republican and Democratic leadership when they allow these abuses. Send me to Congress so I can do that. -> [link removed]
Can we expect my opponent Derek Kilmer to do that? I don’t think so — after all, he voted against demilitarizing the police during the Obama admin. Later, he advanced Trump’s agenda by:
-Voting to fund Trump’s border wall.
-Voting to fund ICE without sufficient migrant protections.
-Voting to extend the Patriot Act.
-Voting for warrantless collection of Americans’ web browsing and internet searches.
I remember when I was a co-leader of Indivisible Tacoma, and we’d ask Kilmer to fight back harder against Trump’s agenda.
The response we got back was always the same: he claimed there was nothing he could do.
I will never vote to advance the racist, authoritarian agenda of the far right — even if I have to go against corporate Democratic leadership to take the right stand.
I’m tired of Democrats who fold and refuse to fight back.
Far from fighting back, Kilmer voted for Trump’s favorite policies. Kilmer is not a leader; he’s a follower. From extending the Patriot Act to funding ICE and Trump’s border wall, Kilmer enabled Trump time and again — all while saying he was fighting him.
I will never say one thing and do another. I will never compromise my values.
If you’re ready for a strong, progressive Democrat in the House, please chip in $7 — or whatever you can afford — now:
