Below my signature is an email I sent a few days ago. It was about Trump’s secret police in 2020, and how the surveillance state has grown under both Republicans and Democrats.
Here’s what I propose to do about it:
If you’re ready for someone who’s NOT funded by corporations and who will actually stand up to the surveillance state to protect our civil liberties, please chip in here with $7 or whatever you can afford:

Email sent on 10/16/21:
Last year in Portland, federal agents in unmarked vans snatched protestors off the street without a word and took them away for questioning. The protestors weren’t told why they were being held or if they were even under arrest.
That was dangerous, secret-police behavior.
During the 2020 protests in Tacoma, a DHS-funded surveillance plane flew over us and police cars drove by us, collecting data from our phones using stingray technology.
Sadly, militarization of the police and increased surveillance and crackdowns on protestors have increased under both Democratic and Republican rule. US citizens who have not been charged with a crime can be black bagged, thrown into an unmarked van, and held indefinitely in a black site.
If Republicans take the House in 2022 and the White House in 2024, it will be truly scary to see how this escalates.
Can we expect my opponent Derek Kilmer to do that? I don’t think so — after all, he voted against demilitarizing the police during the Obama admin. Later, he advanced Trump’s agenda by:
I remember when I was a co-leader of Indivisible Tacoma, and we’d ask Kilmer to fight back harder against Trump’s agenda.
The response we got back was always the same: he claimed there was nothing he could do.
I will never vote to advance the racist, authoritarian agenda of the far right — even if I have to go against corporate Democratic leadership to take the right stand.
I’m tired of Democrats who fold and refuse to fight back.
Far from fighting back, Kilmer voted for Trump’s favorite policies. Kilmer is not a leader; he’s a follower. From extending the Patriot Act to funding ICE and Trump’s border wall, Kilmer enabled Trump time and again — all while saying he was fighting him.
I will never say one thing and do another. I will never compromise my values.
If you’re ready for a strong, progressive Democrat in the House, please chip in $7 — or whatever you can afford — now:
