As I'm sure you've heard, new Democratic Party standard-bearer and self-described Socialist, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), recently introduced her "Green New Deal" resolution in Congress. *Please tell your U.S. Senators and Representative today that you oppose this wasteful and utterly unaffordable proposal! [ [link removed] ]*

Simply put, the Green New Deal is a terrible deal for Americans. It would bankrupt our country by running up the national debt by trillions of dollars, cause immense harm to the economy, and dramatically increase the size and power of the federal government.

While some are dismissing Rep. Ocasio-Cortez's outlandish plan as a pipe dream, make no mistake: It is endorsed by all of the Democratic Presidential candidates in the U.S. Senate.

Beyond that, a growing number of lawmakers are pushing to enact specific pieces of the Green New Deal, like its costly energy mandates and universal healthcare, or "Medicare for All." If we let even one of these misguided proposals take root, it will set a dangerous precedent for the enactment of even more radical budget-busting, big-government proposals in the months and years ahead.

The estimated cost of the Green New Deal is a monumental *$93 trillion* over 10 years. To put that figure in perspective, it is more than four times the size of the current national debt of $22 trillion.

To pay for this fiscally irresponsible proposal, its proponents are calling for taxes to rise on all Americans to astronomical levels and for the Federal Reserve to print more money, which would lead to dangerous hyperinflation that would devastate our economy.

What's more, the Green New Deal is an attack on the principles that make America an exceptional nation. It would completely alter the American way of life by restricting our individual freedoms and letting federal bureaucrats micromanage almost every aspect of our daily activities. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez's office admitted that some of the goals of the Green New Deal are to "replace every combustion-engine vehicle," create a nationwide high-speed rail system so that "air travel stops becoming necessary," and provide "economic security for all who are unable or unwilling to work."

John, it's time to make your voice heard. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has declared that he intends to bring the Green New Deal to a vote later this month to force Senators to take a position on this outrageous plan, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has committed to hold hearings on Rep. Ocasio-Cortez's resolution.

As I said before, we can't afford to let even one of the fanciful proposals in the Green New Deal, like "free" college tuition and "guaranteed" jobs, garner significant support, or America is heading down the slippery slope of Socialism.
