John,
I thought of you — a supporter of our work for families in crisis — as soon as I saw this video.
It tells the story of Chef Noori, a former refugee and beloved IRC community member. Chef Noori received a Special Immigrant Visa and he and his family were able to escape the violence in Afghanistan.
They resettled in Richmond, Virginia in 2015, and just two years later he opened his own restaurant — called the Mantu — serving the cuisine of his home country.
Chef Noori understands what families fleeing Afghanistan right now are going through, and how a warm meal and kind welcome can make all the difference. That's why he has prepared hundreds of homemade meals over the past few weeks to welcome Afghan refugees as they arrive in the U.S.
"It's in Afghan culture to serve people. So my dream, when I opened a restaurant, was to serve refugees," — Chef Noori
For families starting over in a new country, a warm welcome can mean everything. I hope you can watch this 2-minute video to learn more about how Chef Noori is helping Afghan refugees feel at home: [link removed]
The IRC is proud to serve Afghan refugees resettling in the U.S. and people impacted by conflict and disaster around the world. And we are proud to have generous, compassionate partners like you and Chef Noori to help us reach even more children and families in need.
Just like Chef Noori, John, you are helping Afghan refugees arriving in the U.S. feel at home and rebuild their lives. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch and share this heartwarming video. [link removed]
Thank you for helping us show refugee families they're not alone. For people escaping violence and starting over in a new country, kindness and compassion goes a long way.
— Andrea, IRC
P.S. IRC staff and volunteers in the U.S. have welcomed more than 2,000 Afghan refugees and Special Immigrant Visa recipients, and are preparing to receive thousands more. Our teams are working around the clock to get families the resources they need to rebuild their lives. John, you can make an emergency donation to our Resettlement, Asylum, and Integration program right now — to help support Afghan families as they arrive in their new home.
