The 2021 bipartisan criminal justice package led by Senator Durbin and Senator Grassley includes 3 bills Dream Corps strongly supports and is fighting for including The First Step Implementation Act, The Safer Detention Act, and The Prohibiting Punishment of Acquitted Conduct Act.

Despite crack cocaine and powder cocaine being two forms of the same drug, penalties for the possession of crack cocaine is 18 times larger than those for possessing powder cocaine.

There is simply no scientific justification for such a disparity, yet the consequences of this policy have had a devastating impact on communities of color.
